Southern German ISL 1729

by Dorothee Kandzi

The original of this replica is at the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart. In addition to tapestry patterns, the sampler contains the typical Sibmacher motifs from the Baroque period, as well as decorative ribbons and braids. The most striking patterns are the crowns and alphabets embroidered on the side, as well as the cartouche with the initials of the embroiderer, ISL, and the date this opulent sampler was completed, 1729.
